BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art

BALTIC commissioned two in-house training courses on conducting focus groups and observational research, funded through the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, working with the Communications and Learning & Engagement teams. The objective was to understand the complexities and subtleties of BALTIC's audiences to enable it to offer rich, significant experiences tailor-made for their needs. The subsequent rolling out of in-house research was incredibly successful at bringing the two teams together to work in a strategic and cohesive way. This allowed for shared learning but has also accelerated the process of putting ideas and recommendations into practice.

By choosing to invest in training BALTIC staff to deliver this research we enabled two departments, Learning & Engagement and Communications, to develop a deeper working partnership... by blending the research methods we aim to gain a richer and more in-depth knowledge of our audience which will inform future improvements to our visitor service and communication strategy.
